Guided Shavasana

The Art of Shavasana is truly one to be perfected, and with practice true relaxation is bound to unfold. I have recently had some new high school students attend classes, and for most of them...this final relaxation is most difficult. Holding still while lying down, allowing the eyes to close, and simply relax. It can be challenging. Which is why I decided to offer a 15 minute guided relaxation in the hopes of offering the environment of letting go.

This guided relaxation can be a wonderful accompaniment for an asana practice, or can be utilized for a nap or even before bedtime.

So please, let loose, and enjoy. For all these various yoga positions are for the 'soul' purpose of finding a comfortable seated position for meditation.

Blessings of Light and Love,

Namaste

**Chant At The Beginning:

Om sarva mangala-mangalye shive-sarvatha-sadhike

sharanye tryambake gauri Narayani namo’sthu te (from Durga Saptashati, Chapter 11)

I salute the three-eyed Divine Mother, Narayani, who brings total auspiciousness and who fulfills the desire for liberation. Realization arises with her blessings. Who is the world itself. Only through the experiences of life can the soul be perfected. Honor this gift, your life, bow to Mother Nature.

**Chant Shared at the Beginning of Class:

Om tryambakam yajamahe, sugandhim pushti-vardhanam urvarukam iva bandhanan mrityor muksiya mamrtat

(from Shukla-Yajur Veda) We worship the supreme light, the Absolute Shiva, who has three eyes, who is fragrant and nourishes all beings. This light is the expression and communication of our life, and it is our physical, mental, and spiritual radiation and prosperity. Kindly release us from all calamities, bondage, and suffering, just as the cucumber is released from its stalk without any injury. May our minds be absorbed into Shiva, amrtam (nectar), the ocean of tranquility.

Namaste' Beloved Yogis/Yoginis,

Please enjoy the first (of hopefully many) kirtan offerings through Jai Prem Yoga. During this 15 minute heartfelt singing adventure we will be sharing in the two following chants:

Om Shanti

Om is the original and most powerful mantra. It is the primal sound of the Divine in its essential manifestation. In the beginning was the word, and the word was God. (OM) Peace. Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu

May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life, help to contribute in some way, to the happiness and freedom for all.

Kirtan is a form of call-and response chanting. It is a form of Bhakti (devotion) yoga practice that reveals the heart of the practitioner.

"Chanting the Names of God is one of the devotional practices that can dissolve the feeling of seperateness from the Beloved. Chanting utilizes the body, mind and emotions." ~Krishna Das
